Curly Giraffe Peculiarities Lyrics

(I've moved! New Curly Giraffe lyrics post here)

So back around March this year I watched a Japanese film called Confessions that absolutely blew my mind. After the lengthy but amazing introduction, it has a phenomenal slow motion opening montage set to a song by Curly Giraffe called Peculiarities. Each song on the soundtrack was hand picked, nothing was made just for the film and Peculiarities in particular was such a perfect fit. For me, it really made the scene. Since then I have been dying to find the lyrics.

But after searching high and low, in both Japanese and English, I can only come to the conclusion that they're not available anywhere on the internet. So I started deciphering them myself but even after listening to the song so much that it is now my most played track on last.fm, I didn't get very far. However, I enlisted the help of some friends and was able to work out a good deal more.

For me personally, blogs have been a good source for finding lyrics in the past if they aren't available on lyric websites and such. I also figure I can't be the only one looking for the lyrics, so I thought I would make myself useful and create this post. The lyrics are still incomplete, but hopefully it will offer others some help or a point in the right direction. If you are able to find the correct lyrics anywhere, or if you have any corrections or additions, then by all means leave a comment because I am dying to know!

I have two versions of the lyrics below: what the lyrics sound like and what the lyrics probably are.

----------

First, what the lyrics probably are. The lines marked with a question mark are lyrics I am not certain of.

I don't need innocent nasty ____
I don't need empty grapefruits
I don't need a strong perfume
I don't need every family ____
(?)
I don't need a standard regular
(?)
I don't need no sour banana

I don't need a sad invitation
I don't need ____________
I don't need ox and sheep
(?)
I don't need their scary memory

I don't need a dreamless imposter
(?)
I don't need life without love

----------

Second, what the lyrics sound like. Besides the obvious lines, these are not the correct lyrics, but I guess posting a likeness could help others figure out what they actually are.

I don't need innocent nasty kids
I don't need empty grapefruits
I don't need a strong perfume
I don't need every family ___
(or I don't need all the family ___)
I don't need a standard regular

I don't need no sour banana

I don't need a sad invitation
I don't need almighty barbie
(or I don't need no money ___)
I don't need ox and sheep
I don't need their scary memory
I don't need a dreamless imposter
I don't need life without love

----------

Here is the song for anyone dropping by wanting to listen.

While watching Confessions for a third time, I noticed Peculiarities is actually used twice in the film, only the second time it isn't the version by Curly Giraffe that is used, it is a cover performed and arranged by Shigekazu Aida and with vocals from Keiko Hiraoka, according to the credits. Unfortunately this version isn't on the soundtrack, it is mostly talked over in the sequence it is used and I can't find anything on the internet about it. I was, however, able to work out a tiny bit more of the lyrics from what I could hear. Thought I should mention this here for people after the lyrics, as the second song seems easy to miss considering it took me three watches to notice. Although in my defence the story had probably dragged me in too deep and stole all of my attention by that point, as it is used rather late in the film. Shigekazu Aida's version is played during the sequence where Mizuki talks with Moriguchi in the cafe, when Mizuki mentions that she 'saw her by chance that day'.

  2. Indeed. The music is definitely one of the most gripping aspects. There's no need to be ashamed though. China is in no way a copy country. Your nation has come out with a huge variety of brilliant films, not to mention China is by far the leading country in martial arts cinema. I watched Ip Man the other week and was completely awestruck. It's amazing. Japanese cinema is my passion, but Chinese cinema certainly has a massive library of very commendable works.
